Organizing Your Windows Mobile Smart Phone Text Message Inbox

PROBLEMS:
One of the most frustrating limitations of Windows Mobile for Smart Phones is that subfolders cannot be created in the text message Inbox.  Consequently, this means that any message you wish to save must remain in the SMS Inbox.  As one might expect, it does not take long for this folder to get unmanageably large.

While there are several companies that offer online SMS storage services such as Treasure My Text, personally, I do not  like the idea of (1) giving out my mobile number to a remote organization and (2) having my private text messages floating somewhere out there in cyberspace.  After all, you never know when they may float right back to you; just ask Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick.  (Smile)

Another limitation of Windows Mobile for Smart Phones is that you cannot print, publish, or save SMS messages on your PC in a readable format.

One answer to these text message limitations is to install a third party application such as an SMS manager.  However doing this will (1) add more software overhead to your phone’s memory load, thereby slowing it down, and (2) most likely not be fully compatible with any screen reading software for the blind or low vision.

SOLUTION:

What if there was a program that would allow you to (1) create SMS subfolders, (2) print, publish, and save SMS messages on your PC in a readable format, (3) not add any software overhead to your phone, and (4) not interfere with any screen reading technology for the blind or low vision?

Introducing Jeyo Mobile Companion.  At the time of this writing, the current version is 2.0.

In a nutshell, Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.0 extends the functionality of the Windows Mobile Smart Phone message center.  It does not add any software to the phone, itself, but rather, installs a small MS Outlook like interface on your Windows XP or Vista computer.  ActiveSync 3.7 or higher or Vista’s Mobile Center is required to use this application.

Jeyo Mobile Companion is completely accessible with Freedom Scientific’s Jaws for Windows version 7.00.135 or later.

The following is an excerpt from the makers of Mobile Companion:

GENERAL INSTALLATION EXPERIENCE:

It took less than one minute to download Jeyo Mobile Companion v2.0, via broadband, from Handango.com.  It took two minutes to unzip and run the installation wizard.  The installation wizard added a program folder to my Windows Start menu and placed a Mobile Companion Shortcut on my PC Desktop.

After connecting my Smart Phone to my Windows XP Pro PC, via MS ActiveSync, I launched Mobile Companion.   Within five minutes, I created my first SMS Inbox subfolder.  MS Outlook users will experience virtually no learning curve as the Mobile Companion interface is remarkably similar to its Microsoft cousin.

COST:
You may download a fifteen day free trial version of Mobile Companion from any of the three online vendors listed below.  When you are ready to purchase, expect to pay approximately $22.
