Hello Everyone,

Now that Windows 7 Beta is here, it’s time to begin doing some basic house cleaning for those of us who like our Windows clear and bright.  I know, I know.  That made no sense but …

In order to remove the welcome screen in Windows 7, thereby requiring that users type in both their username and password, do the following:

NOTE 1:
You must have administrative privileges.

NOTE 2:
This is only one of several methods of accomplishing this task.

1.
From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

2.
Select System Maintenance.

3.
Select Administrative Tools.

4.
Select Local Security Policy.  This will open the Local Security Policy editor.

5.
In the Local Security Policy editor, you will see two panes, one on the left with tree-view navigation and one on the right which will have the actual definitions and items to edit.

6.
On the left side, open the item labeled Local Policies.

7.
Select Security Options.

8.
Switch to the right pane and Double-Click the item labeled Interactive Logon Do Not Display Last Username.

9.
Place a Checkbox in the Enable box and Click “OK”.

10.
Restart Windows 7 and you will be prompted for both a username and password.
