Hello Everyone,

If you have not yet discovered the mobile donation service that’s taking the socially conscious world of non-profits by storm, keep reading.

Our featured mobile milestone, today, provides a simple service that allows organizations to accept mobile donations via text message. Simply put, users text the organization’s keyword to a short-code, and just like that, the donation (typically with a cap of $5) is made.

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS

The national Text 2HELP Initiative is a partnership between the American Red Cross and The Wireless Foundation that allows customers of participating wireless carriers to send a text message to the Red Cross and make a donation to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to the victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year, disasters like the Hurricanes of 2008.

Subscribers of participating wireless carriers can donate $5 to American Red Cross disaster relief efforts simply by text messaging the keyword “GIVE” to 24357 (2HELP). Donations will appear on customers’ monthly bills or be debited from a prepaid account balance. Standard text messaging rates apply.

Participating Carriers include:

Alltel
AT&T
Sprint-Nextel
T-Mobile
U.S. Cellular
Verizon Wireless
