NOTE:
This, the latest version of Windows Live for Windows Mobile is comfortably accessible for those using Code Factory’s Mobile Speak screen reading software for the blind and low vision.

Enjoy and I’ll see you, Live.

Microsoft recently made a new application available for Windows Mobile smartphones that offers more integration between desktop and mobile Live services. Windows Live for Windows Mobile lets users access Hotmail account via both pull and push sync; send instant messages using Messenger; sync contacts; upload photos to Windows Live Space; perform web searches; and access friends’ spaces. The application supports both touch and non-touch Windows Mobile devices and can be downloaded for free.

Released notes as follows:

Windows Live for Windows Mobile – Release Notes, v10.06.0046.0800 (Windows Live Hotmail, Messenger, Contacts and Spaces)

First install of Windows Live for Windows Mobile may indicate an unnecessary alert and fail to install:
Even with Windows Live no longer present in the “Remove Programs” feature of Windows Mobile 6, an alert may result indicating “It looks like you are trying to reinstall Windows Live on top of a previous version. Please uninstall the current version first.”
Corrective action:
A second attempt to install will be successful.

Setup abruptly exits:
Windows Live for Windows Mobile is not compatible with Samsung SCH-i780 Today screen which causes setup to exit.
Corrective action:
Disable the Samsung Today screen via device Settings\Personal\Today\Items.

Services.exe crash may occur with uninstall/install and “Switch Windows Live
ID”:
A service.exe error may occur during an install of Windows Live for Windows Mobile when uninstalling the previous version while logged into Windows Live Messenger. This same error may also occur when you are logged into Windows Live Messenger and request to Switch Windows Live ID.
Corrective action:
Sign out of messenger and disable ‘As item arrive’ before uninstall/install.
If the issue still occurs, please restart the device to correct the problem.

OK button on HTC TyTN II (aka Tilt device) does not work to select Windows Live options:
In Windows Live, the menu options cannot be selected using the OK button on the HTC TyTN II device.
Corrective action:
Use the d-pad select or stylus to select the option that you wish to view or change.

Cannot select the domain field when using a right tap of the d-pad from the e-mail address on a Motorola Q9:
When entering your e-mail address during Windows Live setup, you may find that you cannot right tap the d-pad to select the domain.
Corrective action:
Tap down on the d-pad from the e-mail address and then press left twice to back into the domain field.

Synchronization fails when creating and using a new Windows Live ID during
setup:
If a new Windows Live ID is created during setup step ‘2/5’ using “Get a Windows Live ID”, synchronization will fail at ‘5/5’ and after setup. When synchronization fails during setup, view errors will indicate “Personal
settings: Failed to synchronize. E-mail: Windows Live Hotmail is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.” After setup the sync status will indicate
“Result: Windows Live Hotmail is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.”
Microsoft has identified this issue and is currently working to correct this temporary problem. The following corrective action is required until the issue is resolved.
Corrective action:
Sign in to Windows Live or Hotmail from a desktop computer and then sign out. Following attempts to synchronize or send/receive mail will be successful with Windows Live for Windows Mobile.

Time to sync e-mail and contact takes a long time:
During setup for Windows Live for Windows Mobile or when you Switch Windows Live ID, syncing contacts with setup options enabled for “Store Windows Live contacts in your mobile phone’s contact list” and “Merge duplicate contacts”
can require more than 20 minutes to complete when there are 400 or more contacts.
Corrective action:
Unselect ‘Merge duplicate contacts’ during setup to improve performance. Do not cancel setup until the process is complete.

Sync fails for large inbox and 400 or more contacts:
During setup for Windows Live for Windows Mobile or when you Switch Windows Live ID, syncing mail with a large inbox or more than 400 contacts with setup options enabled for “Store Windows Live contacts in your mobile phone’s contact list” and “Merge duplicate contacts” can appear to fail with the message “Synchronization Fails”. No contacts will be available in the contacts application, but the sync process is running in the background and will eventually complete. Until the sync process completes, the device may operate slowly and some functionality will appear to be disabled.
Corrective action:
Do not cancel setup and allow the process to complete. Once the process is complete, contacts will be available in the contacts application.
