Hello Everyone,Â
[Deep, Deep Gulp]
Ok, I think I’m calm enough to focus. I am absolutely stunned to share that Apple has announced that the iPhone 3G S (Speed) is equipped with accessibility software for the blind, low vision, and everyone else.Â
[Takes sniff of smelling salt to stay lucid]
Yes, it appears as though Apple has finally decided to let those of us who see better with our minds than with our eyes get on board the iPhone Love Train. I will be among the first to buy a ticket, I assure you.
No matter the future, the Apple iPhone family just got a lot bigger.
The following is from Apple’s Accessibility portal.
See you on board,
Mark
The iPhone 3G S
Making a revolutionary mobile phone means making it easy for everyone to use. That’s why iPhone 3G S comes standard with accessibility features that help people with disabilities experience all that iPhone has to offer.
Built-in Accessibility
Accessibility comes standard on iPhone 3G S. From closed captioning to TTY support, Apple builds accessibility right into the iPhone operating system. And innovative new features on iPhone 3G S take accessibility a step further, right out of the box.
VoiceOver
In addition to Voice Control, iPhone 3G S features VoiceOver, the world’s first gesture-based screen reader. Instead of memorizing keyboard commands or pressing tiny arrow keys, you simply touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then double-tap, drag, or flick to control iPhone. VoiceOver speaks 21 languages and works with all of the applications built into iPhone 3G S.
Â
VoiceOver also features a virtual control called the rotor. Turning the rotor — by rotating two fingers on the screen as if you were turning a dial — changes the speed at which VoiceOver reads the screen. Choose the Character setting, for example, and VoiceOver reads the screen character by character — ideal for proofreading or editing text. You can even use the rotor to browse web pages by header, link, form elements, images, and more.
