The following describes how to use the Samsung Black Jack II Due Day (D-Day) application with Mobile Speak for Smart Phone:
The D-Day application is to years, months, and days as a stopwatch is to hours, minutes, and seconds. That is, it calculates the remaining number of days from the current day to the appointed day. For example, you might use this program to determine the number of days remaining until someone’s birthday or a holiday.Â
1.
Make sure that MSS is set to the Default Reading layout mode.
2.
The D-Day program is located in the Organizer section of the Windows Start menu.
3.
The first time you launch the D-Day program or after deleting all previously created due dates, the following text appears in the D-Day Window: “Press ‘New’ to create a New D-Day.â€Â Note that you must use the MSS Review Cursor in order to read this text. At this point, the Left Soft Key is labeled as New and the Right Soft Key is labeled as Menu.
4.
Press the Left Soft Key to create a new D-Day. A Dialog box will appear the first line of which displays the current date in the format ddmmmyyyy. For example, at the time of this writing, my phone displays “16 Mar 2008â€. Note that the focus is on the day; in this example it is on the “16â€.
5.
Enter the desired day in either one or two digits.
6.
Press the Right arrow key on the Jog Wheel to move the focus to the month field.Â
7.
If the default month is correct, skip to the next step, otherwise, enter the desired month in either one or two digits.
8.
Press the Right arrow key on the Jog Wheel to move the focus to the year field.Â
9.
If the default year is correct, skip to the next step, otherwise, enter the desired year in four digits. Please note that if you again press the Right arrow key, the focus will wrap around to the day field.
10.
Press the Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel to move the focus down to the Title field. This is a textbox in which there will be default text such as “Day 1â€. The insertion point will be at the end of this text. To quickly erase the default text, press and hold the [Back] button for two seconds.
11.
Enter the title of the due day such as “Independence Dayâ€.
12.
Press the Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel to move focus to the Category field.Â
13.
Select one of nine categories by pressing either the Left or Right arrow key on the Jog Wheel.
14.
Press the Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel to move focus down to the final field in this Dialog box.
15.
MSS will not initially read the final field which is a checkbox item that reads, “repeat every yearâ€, however, pressing the [Enter] key, located at the center of the Jog Wheel will result in MSS announcing whether or not this box is checked or unchecked. Note that pressing the [Enter] key on this item will toggle the selection. Please note that pressing the Down Arrow key on the Jog Wheel from this field will have no effect as this Window does not wrap around to the top.Â
16.
Press the Left Soft Key (Done) to save this item. Note that, visually speaking, the newly created D-Day will appear in a list box but MSS will merely report, “D-Day Windowâ€. This is because, at the time of this writing, MSS does not automatically focus on the D-Day list box.Â
17.
In order to force the MSS focus to the D-Day list box, activate the MSS Review Cursor, press the Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel once or until you land on the title of the D-Day, and then press the [Enter] key on the Jog Wheel. It is critical that you hear MSS include the word “list†in its response to pressing the [Enter] key. It may be necessary to repeat this step until you hear MSS include the word “list†in its response. Once this is accomplished, you have successfully focused the MSS cursor on the D-Day list box and you may use standard navigation keys to further act on an item. It is important to understand that each time you return to the D-Day list box, it may be necessary for you to manually focus the MSS cursor on it by first activating the Review Cursor, then pressing the [Enter] as described above.Â
18.
Now press either the Up or Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel and you will hear the Title of the due day, the date of the due day, and then the number of days remaining preceded by the letter “Dâ€. For example, I entered The Forth of July. So, consequently, MSS says, “Forth of July, 4, July, 2008, D-110â€. That is, there are 110 days from today’s date until the Forth of July.Â
19.
To illustrate other features of this program, follow the steps listed above and create a second D-Day item; for example Christmas. Now you should have at least two D-Day items in the list box. However, you may notice that the sooner due day is not at the top of the list box.Â
20.
Press the Right Soft Key to launch the Shortcut menu which consist of seven choices including Edit, Delete, Delete All, Filter, Sort By, Edit Category, and About D-Day.
21.
Select Sort by and press the [Enter] key.Â
22.
Choose Due Date and press the [Enter] key. You will notice that this does not change the order.
23.
Select Sort by Due Date, again, and press the [Enter] key. Now you will notice that the items are sorted in ascending order as they occur in the future.Â
Enjoy,
Mark
