As the name implies, the Smart Converter application allows you to convert numbers from one system to another such as from feet to meters.Â
Please note that at the time of this writing, the Black Jack 2 Smart Converter is not completely accessible with Mobile Speak for Smart Phones. In fact, I would not recommend it for novice users. Therefore, if you wish to make extensive use of a conversion program, I suggest that you go to: http://www.onlineconversion.comÂ
Nevertheless, for those advanced users of MSS who only need to convert numbers from time-to-time, the Black Jack 2 Smart Converter will do the job.
1.
Upon launching the Smart Converter application, MSS will begin reading the entire screen. It is imperative that you always allow MSS to describe the entire screen. Do not interrupt MSS as doing so will cause the Smart Converter to crash. Â
2.
After MSS finishes reading the screen, use the Up or Down arrow key on the Jog Wheel to select one of the six categories including currency, length, weight, volume, area, and temperature. For our example, we will use temperature.Â
3.
After making your selection by pressing the [Enter] key, MSS will, again, begin reading the entire screen. It is imperative that you always allow MSS to describe the entire screen. Do not interrupt MSS as doing so will cause the Smart Converter to crash.
4.
Focus is now on a list box at the top of a dialog box. This list box, in which you must use either the Left or Right arrow key to navigate, describes the type of unit you will be converting from; in our example, it will be labeled Degrees. Consequently, in the Temperature category, this list box will only have two choices, Fahrenheit and Celsius. That is, in the Temperature category, we can convert temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius or from Celsius to Fahrenheit, only. Note that MSS will say either “degree F†or “degree C†depending upon which choice is selected. For our example, select Fahrenheit.
5.
Press the [Enter] key located at the center of the Jog Wheel to start your selection confirmation process.
6.
Press the Left Soft key to complete the confirmation process.
7.
Press the Down arrow key to move focus to an Edit box.
8.
Enter a number from which you wish to convert; in this example, enter the number 50. Please note that MSS will not accurately echo the digits you enter, however, you may use the MSS standard reading keys to review your entry. If this does not work, simply press the Up arrow key to move focus from the field, then, press the Down arrow key to bring focus back to this Edit field upon which will cause MSS to announce the currently entered number.
9.
Press the Down arrow key.
10.
Focus is now on the second of the two list boxes on this screen. This list box, in which you must use either the Left or Right arrow key to navigate, describes the type of unit you will be converting to; in our example, it will be labeled Degrees. Consequently, in the Temperature category, this list box will only have two choices, Fahrenheit and Celsius. Note that MSS will say either “degree F†or “degree C†depending upon which choice is selected. For our example, select Celsius.
11.
We must now initiate the MSS Review Cursor in order to comfortably read the conversion result. You can only initiate the MSS Review Cursor from within the Edit box in which you typed the number 50. Thus, press the Up arrow key to return to the Edit box.
12.
Initiate the MSS Review Cursor and then use the Up and Down arrow keys to review the entire screen including your conversion result.
13.
It is not possible for MSS users to go back to the main category selection screen because attempting to do so will cause the Smart Converter to crash. Please note that it is possible to successfully change the original number in the Edit box in order to calculate a new conversion result without having to first exit the Smart Converter.
14.
While you can minimize the Smart Converter by simply pressing the [End/Lock] key on the handset, the only way to remove the Smart Converter from memory is to “stop†it in the Windows Mobile Task Manager. Please note that the MSS Task Manager will not successfully shut down the Smart Converter.
