Hello Everyone,

INTRODUCTION:
Some of you may notice that, from time-to-time, your Windows Mobile 6 Smart Phone may begin to slow down even after you think you have freed up phone memory by closing currently running software applications.  For many of you using Mobile Speak to access your Smart Phone, what you hear and see is not always what you get, until now.  (Smile)

This is for all Windows Mobile 6 users, especially those on the Samsung Blackjack II Smart Phone with the Mobile Speak for Smart Phone accessibility software installed.

1.
As you already know, once MSS is installed on your phone, it adds an additional Task Manager, commonly referred to as the MSS Task Manager.  The MSS Task Manager is distinctly different from the Window Mobiles 6 Task Manager that may be launched from the WM6 Start Menu at any time.

2.
Generally, it is recommended that, in order to shutdown/close an application such as Mobile Word or the Message Center, that you use the MSS Task Manager to accomplish this.  At the Today Screen, launch the MSS Task Manager by tapping the phone’s [Home] button immediately followed by tapping the number 2 on the phone’s QWERTY keyboard.

3.
This will display a list of all currently running non MSS dependent applications.

4.
Select the application you wish to close and then press the [Left Soft Key] to bring up a list of menu choices which include “Switch To”, “Stop”, and “Stop All”.

5.
Now make your selection by first highlighting your choice and then pressing the [Enter] key on the phone.  This will have the effect of both closing the selected application and the MSS Task Manager simultaneously.

6.
Now, once again, launch the MSS Task Manager.  If all went well, you will no longer see the recently closed application in the list of currently running applications.  If this is the case, you may simply close the MSS Task Manager by pressing the [Right Soft Key] or select another application to close in the same way described above.  Please note that once you have closed all of the applications that appear in the MSS Task Manager, tapping the [Home Key] immediately followed by the number 2 on the phone’s QWERTY keyboard, while the Today Screen is in focus,  will no longer launch the MSS Task Manager.

7.
However, if after launching the MSS Task Manager a second time and continuing  to see the application that was supposed to be closed previously, do the following.

8.
Close the MSS Task Manager by pressing the [Right Soft Key].

9.
Launch the Windows Mobile Task Manager which can be found in the Windows Mobile 6 Start Menu.  However, on the Samsung Blackjack II, the WM6 Task Manager can be launched by simply pressing and holding the [Home] key on the phone for two or more seconds and then releasing it.  Generally, MSS will tend to read the entire list of running applications including those necessary to operate MSS, itself.

10.
Scroll down to the desired application you previously attempted to close and press the [Left Soft Key].  This will have the immediate effect of closing the selected application.  Please note that, unlike the MSS Task Manager, closing the selected application from within the Windows Mobile 6 Task Manager, will not close the WM6 Task Manager dialog box.

11.
Now you may exit the Windows Mobile Task Manager, if you wish by pressing the [End Key] on the phone.  Note, now you have the WM6 Task Manager running in the background.  To close it, launch the MSS Task Manager and follow the steps described above.

Until Next Time,

Mark
