Hello Everyone,

Although the battery life on the Samsung Epix SGH-i907 Smartphone (Windows Mobile Professional 6.1) has already proven to be excellent, there are several little tweaks that can be made to extend the day-to-day battery usage of the device.

While this document is based on the new Samsung Epix SgH-i907 Smartphone (Windows Mobile Professional 6.1), the same or similar steps may be taken on many Windows Mobile Smartphones or wireless devices:

NOTE:
The following suggestions are listed in no particular order.

A.
Turn off all device radios that you do not use on a regular basis.  For example (assuming your device has both a Bluetooth and WiFi transmitter) if you do not have access to a  Wifi Hotspot such as those found at many airports, hotels, and coffeehouses, there is no need to have it powered on every time you turn on your device.  The same is true for those not using a Bluetooth device.  To control your device radio transmissions:

1.
From the Start Menu, select Settings.

2.
Select the Connections Tab.

3.
Select Wireless Manager.

B.
Adjust the device’s Backlight timeout settings.  To do this:

1.
From the Start Menu, select Settings.

2.
Select the System Tab.

3.
Select Backlight.  A Dialog Box will open.

4.
Select the Battery Power Tab.

5.
Make sure there is a checkmark in the “Turn off Backlight if device is not used for” checkbox.

6.
In the selection box, I suggest you choose 30 seconds.

7.
Make sure there is a checkmark in the “Turn on Backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped” checkbox.

8.
Select the Keyboard Tab.

9.
Place a checkmark in the “Turn off Keyboard Backlight if device is not used for” checkbox.

10.
In the selection box, choose 5 seconds.

11.
Place a checkmark in the “Turn off Keyboard Backlight in the day time” checkbox.

12.
In the Daytime From field, select 12:00 A.M..

13.
In the Daytime To field, select 11:30 P.M.  Effectively, this will keep your device’s keyboard Backlight turned off all day and night except for 30 minutes, 11:30 P.M. to 12:00 A.M.

14.
Select the Brightness Tab.

15.
Select the Power Save button.

C.
Adjust the System Power Settings:

1.
From the Start Menu, select Settings.

2.
Select System.

3.
Select Power.

4.
Select the Advanced Tab.

5.
Place a checkmark n the “On battery power, turn off device is not used for” checkbox.

6.
In the selection box, choose 1 minute.

7.
Select the LCD Off Tab.

8.
Place a checkmark in the “turn off LCD after call has been connected for” checkbox.

9.
In the selection box, choose 5 seconds.

That’s all there is to it.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark
