Hello, My Fellow Epix Explorers,

This document describes how to add a new Contact to the Epix Contacts List.

NOTE 1:
While the current release version of MSP does not support the Epix touch-screen, the touch-screen is not necessary in order to quickly and easily add a new Contact.

NOTE 2:
This post presumes that you are familiar with the keyboard layout and understand how to use the Epix Optical Navigation Control.

NOTE 3:
This post assumes that you are familiar with the basic entry fields associated with creating Microsoft Outlook Contacts.

NOTE 4:
This post assumes that you have not remapped the Epix Left-Soft or Right-Soft, hardware keys.

To add a new contact on your Samsung Epix SGH-i907 Smartphone:

1.
From the Today Screen, tap the Right-Soft key labeled, Contacts.  A list of Contacts will appear.  At this point, you will discover that the Left-Soft key is now labeled New and the Right-Soft key is labeled Menu.

2.
Tap the Left-Soft key.  Now you will be prompted to select the type of Contact you wish to create.

NOTE 5:
This post presumes that you wish to create a Microsoft Outlook Contact.

3.
Making sure the Outlook Contact item is selected, tap the Epix [ENTER] key to proceed.

4.
At this point, a multi-tabbed Contacts Dialog Box will appear.  The tabs, located at the bottom of the display, are labeled as follows, Details, Notes.

NOTE 6:
The MSP Tab Key, conveniently located at the bottom right side of the Epix, is not used to navigate fields in this Dialog Box.  The MSP Tab key is used to switch between the Details and Notes Tab, only.

NOTE 7:
When the Dialog Box opens, the Details Tab is automatically selected.  Also, at this point, the Left-Soft key is unlabelled while the Right-Soft Key is labeled Menu.

NOTE 8:
To quickly exit this Dialog Box at any time, without saving any changes, simply tap the Right-Soft key and select Cancel.

NOTE 9:
It is important to understand that when the Contacts Dialog Box first opens, none of the Contact Edit Fields are selected.  This means that you can quickly select which field, in which to add data, by merely scrolling up or down the list of fields via the Epix Optical Navigation Control.  Before proceeding to the next step, explore this Dialog Box by scrolling up and down using the phone’s up and down keys.

NOTE 10:
The list of fields in the Add A New Contact Dialog Box is not finite.  That is, the highlight bar will wrap around the list.  The first field in the list is labeled Name and the last field in the list is labeled Children.

NOTE 11:
The Name field may be accessed in one of two ways.  To simply add a Contact name as one string, such as Mark Taylor, upon hearing MSP say “Name Colon” tap the [ENTER] KEY TO IMMEDIATELY BEGIN ENTERING DATA.  However, before tapping the [ENTER] key, to activate the field, tap the Down Arrow and you will hear MSP say, “Name Colon, Press Enter for More Field.”  Tapping the [ENTER] key at this point will cause a more detailed list of name fields to appear for example, First, Middle, Last.  Be aware that although MSP correctly announces the Name field as two separate fields, to a sighted person, both of these fields appear as one.  That is, to a sighted person, to the left of the field label, there is an Up and Down arrow indicating the name sub-fields as described above.

NOTE 12:
Upon opening the Add A New Contact Dialog Box, I suggest that you tap the phone’s Down Arrow key in order to place the Highlight Bar on the Name field.

5.
Select a field to which you wish to add data and tap the [ENTER] key in order to activate the field’s Edit Box.  This means that you will now have a blinking Insertion Point at the beginning of the Edit Box.

6.
Enter your data into the activated field.

NOTE 13:
To save the data you just entered and continue to the next field, simply tap the phone’s Down arrow key.  Upon doing this, you are returned to review mode and, therefore, to add data to yet another field, you must first select the field and tap the [ENTER] key to activate the Insertion Point.

8.
To save your changes and exit, tap the phone’s [OK] button.

That’s all there is to it.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark
