Hello Epix Explorers,

Did you know that Windows Mobile enables you to quickly and easily record a voice note?  Well, it does; and, what’s even better is that on the Samsung Epix, the audio quality is superb.

NOTE 1:
While this document may be useful to anyone using a Windows Mobile device, the following procedure is written for those low-vision or blind Samsung Epix owners who access their Smartphone via Code Factory’s Mobile Speak Pocket screen reading software.

NOTE 2:
The Windows Mobile Notes application described in this document should not be confused with Microsoft’s One Note Mobile application, also found on the Epix.

NOTE 3:
It is strongly recommended that you purchase a mini-SD storage card for your Epix before recording any voice notes.

NOTE 4:
This document presumes that you have a mini-SD card installed in your Epix for added storage space.

NOTE 5:
Although this document focuses on using the Windows Mobile Notes application for making audio recordings, the application may be used as a text-based notepad, as well.

CONFIGURING THE WINDOWS MOBILE NOTES APPLICATION ON THE EPIX

Before recording a voice note or making any audio records on your Epix, do the following:
1.
From the Start Menu, select Programs.

2.
Select Organizer.

3.
Select Notes.  A List Box containing saved notes will appear.

NOTE 6:
At this point, the Left-Soft key is labeled New and the Right-Soft key is Labeled Menu.

4.
Tap the Right-Soft key to open the Shortcut Menu and select Options.  The Options Dialog Box will appear.

NOTE 7:
In the Options Dialog Box, Soft-keys are not labeled, therefore, they cannot be used.

5.
In the Default Mode Drop-Down List, select Typing.

6.
Tap the Tab key to move to the next field.

7.
In the Default Template Drop-Down List, select Blank Note (Recommended).

8.
Tap the Tab key to move to the next field.

9.
In the Save To Drop-Down List, select Storage Card (Strongly Recommended).

10.
Tap the Tab key to move to the next field.

11.
In the Record Button Action Drop-Down List, select Switch To Notes (Recommended).

12.
Tap the [OK] button, located just to the right of the Epix Optical Navigation Control, to save your settings.  You will be returned to the main screen of the Notes application.

RECORD A VOICE NOTE

From within the main screen of the Notes application, do the following to record a voice note:
1.
Tap the Right-Soft key to display the Shortcut menu and select View Recording Toolbar.  Upon making this selection, you will once again be returned to the main screen of the Notes application, however, at the bottom of the display you will now see a horizontal Recording Toolbar.

NOTE 8:
The Recording Toolbar must be displayed in order to make any audio recording.

2.
Tap the Tab key.  Doing this will move your focus to the Recording Toolbar.  Mobile Speak will say, “Play Slash Pause Button, Unavailable.”

NOTE 9:
When focus is first placed on the Recording Toolbar, MSP reads the Icon located at the center of the Toolbar.  This means that you may tap either the Left or Right arrow keys to navigate this graphics-based control.  It is strongly recommended that you use the Epix arrow keys to explore this Toolbar before proceeding to the next step.

3.
Navigate to the Record button.

4.
Tap the phone’s [ENTER] key to begin recording.  A single audible chime will sound.  The phone is now recording.

5.
To stop recording, tap the phone’s [ENTER] key.  A double audible chime will sound.  The phone is no longer recording.

6.
To playback your recording, tap the Tab key to jump back to the Notes Files List.  You will now see a file labeled Recording X where X is the number of the recorded file.

7.
With focus on the desired file, tap the phone’s [ENTER] key to begin playback.

NOTE 10:
Although not discussed in this document, you may use the Windows Mobile Notes application to record both sides of a telephone conversation.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark
