Hello Fellow Epix Explorers,

One of the niftiest applications pre-installed on the Samsung Epix SGH-i907 Smartphone is a Smart Converter. 

As the name suggests, this little mathematical jewel allows you to quickly and easily convert one unit of measure to another such as converting miles into kilometers. 

Unlike on its predecessor, the Samsung Blackjack II Smartphone, the Epix Smart Converter is comfortably compatible with Code Factory’s Mobile Speak Pocket, a software access solution for the blind and low-vision.

The following demonstrates how to use the Epix Smart Converter to convert temperature degrees from Fahrenheit to Celsius:

NOTE 1:
It is not necessary to use the Epix Touch-Screen in order to access the Epix Smart Converter.

1.
From the Start Menu, select Programs.

2.
Select Organizer. 

NOTE 2:
First-letter navigation may be used to quickly jump to the desired item.

Select Smart Converter.  The main screen of the Smart Converter will appear. 

NOTE 3:
At this point, notice that the Left and Right-Soft keys are labeled “Clear” and “Menu”, respectively. 

NOTE 4:
Upon entering the Smart Converter, you are placed in the “From” Edit Box.  While confusing at first, this is actually a very convenient location from which to use this utility, as you will soon discover. 

NOTE 5:
From within the Epix Smart Converter, you may use either the [Tab] key or the Up and Down arrow keys to navigate between the fields on the main screen.

NOTE 6:
Use the Left and Right arrow keys to select specific items in each field.

4.
Tap the Up Arrow key, twice, to move focus to the top field in this Dialog Box, initially set to Length.

NOTE 7:
From within the top field of the Epix Smart Converter, you may choose one of five types of measures, Length, Weight, Volume, Area, and Temperature.

Use either the Left or Right Arrow key to select Temperature.

6.
Tap either the Down Arrow or the [Tab] key to move focus down to the Measurement Type Drop-Down List Box.  You will hear Mobile Speak say, “Combo, Degree C, 1 of 3, Temperature, 5 of 5”.

NOTE 8.
The contents of this Drop-Down list will depend upon which type of measure is selected in the preceding field.

7.
Select Fahrenheit, indicated by Mobile Speak saying, “Degree F, 2 of 3”.

8.
Tap either the Down Arrow or the [Tab] key to move focus down to the “From” Edit Box.

NOTE 9:
This is the original Edit Box upon which you landed when first entering the Epix Smart Converter.

9.
Enter a temperature value.  For this example, enter the number 50.

NOTE 10:
The Epix QWERTY numeric keyboard values are automatically enabled upon entering the Epix Smart Converter.

10.
Tap either the Down Arrow or the [Tab] key to move focus down to the “To” Edit Box.

11.
Select Celsius, indicated by Mobile Speak saying, “Degree C, 1 of 3”.

12:
Do one of the following to hear the conversion result:
A.
Tap the Down arrow key, once, and Mobile Speak will say, “Ten”.

B.
Tap the [Tab] key, once, and Mobile Speak will say, “Edit, Read Only, Ten”.
 
NOTE 11:
To have Mobile Speak repeat the result, use any of the read-only Edit Screen commands such as [Alt]+[Enter] key to say the current sentence.  To hear the value spoken one digit at a time, simply tap either the Left or Right Arrow keys.
