Hello Fellow Globe Trotting Trendsetters,
In a recent article I published entitled, “Mobile Geo Brings GPS Bling To The Big Blue Ball†(Click Here to view), I describe my first real jaunt using version 1.5 of Code Factory’s Mobile Geo, a GPS navigation solution for the blind and low vision.
As are all good things, Code Factory’s new Mobile Geo, as well as its flagship product, Mobile Speak for Smartphone and Pocket PC devices, is a work in progress.
With this in mind, some Mobile Geo users, such as those using a Samsung Epix SGH-i907 Smartphone, may experience the following or similar scenario:Â
[BEGIN SCENARIO]
Mark Marcus, a brilliant bon vivant, living on the south side of the South Side, wants to modify which elements will be automatically announced, by Mobile Geo, the next time he takes his evening walk.
When using his Smartphone, Mark relies on the speech synthesizer, that is part of the feature-set of Mobile Speak, in order to interact with the device.
He has learned from the Mobile Geo User Guide that in order to configure this and other settings, he must enter the General Options Settings Menu.
With Mobile Geo in focus on his wireless device:
1.
From the Main Screen, Mark taps the Left-Soft Key labeled [Functions]. A List Menu is displayed.
2.
Next, he selects the Settings List Item. A List Menu containing the following 7 Items appears:
1. GPS Settings
2. General Options
3. Preferred Locations
4. Announcement Parameters
5. Sounds and Vibrations
6. LookAround Options
0. More
3.
Mark uses the directional keys, on his wireless device, to navigate through this list. He lands on the item labeled LookAround Options and taps the phone’s [ENTER] key to select it. Strangely enough, Mark discovers that even though he was careful to select the LookAround Menu Item, he has apparently entered the Sounds and Vibrations Dialog Box, instead.
[END SCENARIO]
At the time of this document, when navigating the Settings Menu, in Mobile Geo v1.5, the display highlight bar may become unsynchronized with the synthesizer audio cue.
As the title of this post suggests, there is “A Workaround to Move Around Mobile Geoâ€.
Notice that when navigating the Settings Menu, in Mobile Geo, Mobile Speak announces each items position in the list as a fraction of the entire list.
As listed above, the Settings Menu is displayed as:
1. GPS Settings
2. General Options
3. Preferred Locations
4. Announcement Parameter
5. Sounds and Vibrations
6. LookAround Options
0. More
This is a total of 7 items.
Therefore, when landing on Preferred Options, Mobile Speak will say, “Preferred Options, 3 of 7.â€Â
Now that you know the number assigned to Preferred Options, instead of tapping enter to select it, which at the time of this writing will not work correctly, simply enter the number 3, on your devices QWERTY keyboard and the correct Dialog Box will open allowing you to configure Mobile Geo.
Enjoy,
Mark
