Hello Everyone,

It is my privilege to share with you my primary personal theme song.

As described in my previous post on this subject, a personal theme song is one that:

1.
Accurately articulates the emotional gravity in one’s heart.

2.
Reflects who you are when you are alone and lonely.

3.
The thought of its lyrics gives one hope for the future and the strength to rise above his station and dare to dream the impossible dream.

4.
Makes you happy to be a part of humanity and affirms that every thought you speak out loud will live long after you have passed from this life into the snowy white mountains of forever.

5.
Causes you to get duck bumps (ok, ok, goose bumps) over your entire body as you allow yourself to float on its melodic rhythms and uplifting refrains.

6.
Solidifies your moral center and fortifies your most basic convictions.

7.
Makes you want your loved ones to associate it with your memory and by doing so will cause them to walk a little faster, try a little harder, and climb a little higher.

As an adult, again from my previous post on this matter, my personal theme song is entitled Love Train, performed by the O’Jays

However, before Love Train became the theme song of Mark Taylor, the one who is, another song captured the essence of Mark Taylor, the one who was to become.

As I think about those tumultuous years, when I was the one who was, I realize that but for the internal convictions of my spiritual fortitude, inspired by both my grandmother and my uncle, I would surely have perished in the torrential rains of puberty.

Therefore, it is my privilege to share with you the product of my most recent personal revelation; my primary Theme song, written and performed by Mr. Randy Newman, is entitled “I’m Different”.

Click Here to listen to the song while you read the lyrics, below.

NOTE:
There is some profanity in the original recording that has been modified in the following text.

Enjoy.

Most Sincerely,

Mark

I’M DIFFERENT
By Randy Newman

I’m different and I don’t care who knows it
Somethin’ about me
It’s not the same, yeah
I’m different and that’s how it goes
Ain’t gonna play no gosh darn game

Got a different way a walkin’
I got a different kind of smile
I got a different way a talkin’
Drives the women kind of wild
(Kind of wild)

(He’s different)
And I don’t care who knows it
(Somethin’ about him)
It’s not the same
(He’s different)
And that’s how it goes
(And he’s not gonna play your gosh darn game)

I ain’t sayin’ I’m better than you are
But maybe I am
I only know that when I look in the mirror
I like the man
(We like the man)

I’m different and I don’t care who knows it
Somethin’ about me
Not the same
I’m different and that’s how it goes
Ain’t gonna play your gosh darn game

When I walk down the street in the mornin’
Blue birds are singin’ in the tall oak tree
They sing a little song for the people
And they sing a little song for me

(He’s different and he don’t care who knows it
Somethin’ about him
Not the same
He’s different and that’s how it goes
Ain’t gonna play your gosh darn game)

I’m different and I don’t care who knows it
Somethin’ about me
Not the same
I’m different and that’s how it goes
Ain’t gonna play no boss man’s game
