Hello My Fellow Pied Piping PodCatchers,
If you want the freedom to sync your iPhone or iPod with two or more iTunes computers, read on:Â
SUMMARY:
In order for your iPhone or iPod to sync with more than one copy of iTunes, without first being erased, each copy of iTunes must have the exact same iTunes Library Identification Number.
Therefore, all that is required is to (1) obtain the iTunes Library ID of one (primary) copy of iTunes and then (2) copy that ID number to a (secondary) copy of iTunes. Thus, your iPhone or iPod, seeing the same Library ID, will think it is connected to the same copy of iTunes. Â
NOTE 1:
The following instructions are for those using Microsoft Windows based computers. Mac users, Click Here for step-by-step instructions
NOTE 2:
Not that I would ever do such a thing, myself, but I have it on good authority that the following steps work with iTunes 8.2 for Windows.
NOTE 3:
Please read all of the following instructions in their entirety before proceeding.
NOTE 4:
I strongly recommend that you make a backup copy of any files discussed in this document before making any modifications to them.Â
NOTE 5:
Files modified must be saved in their original document file format.
NOTE 6:
In order to successfully complete this procedure, you will need a Hex editor. Click Here to Download a free copy of Hex Edit. (This program requires no installation. Once downloaded, just Click on the Filename to launch.)Â
