Hello Everyone,

You know, when Apple announced Passbook, I thought, among other things, one would be able to take whatever store reward cards, currently in one’s possession, such as those issued by CVS Pharmacy, Kroger, The Vitamin Shoppe, etc, and either scan them into the App or enter any ID numbers that were associated with the Rewards card into the App.  This is the case with one of my favorite free Apps called Key Ring.

Passbook, however, requires that a company have some kind of association with the App Store.  This makes things much more complicated and less desirable, in my opinion.  I don’t want to have to download a bunch of store apps that add all kinds of notifications and overhead to my phone just so I can save 10 cents.

I realize that for all the automatic display features to work, some kind of infrastructure has to be maintained by the vendor and Apple but such an infrastructure is not necessary if one is content to manually open the Passbook in order to display the reward cards.

In my local area, many restaurants offer rewards cards that I use on a regular basis.  These mom and pop shops simply don’t have enough time and/or money to invest in developing an App Store app.

Allowing the manual entering and editing of a rewards card would have been a nice feature.

Fortunately, there exists apps like Key Ring that get the job done.
