Windows 7 doesn’t come pre-installed with an iLife-type suite of consumer applications, but you can download the free Windows Live Essentials to fill this role. Microsoft gave early access to the upcoming “Wave 4” apps to some tech journalists, and PCMag.com was invited for a test spin.

Hello Everyone,

As a low vision Windows 7 and Mac Snow Leopard user, I access computers via a screen reader (JAWS) for Windows 7 and (VoiceOver) for Mac Snow Leopard.

I also happen to be a very satisfied user of iPhone 3GS.

Included with the iPhone 3GS, at the time of purchase, is a very nice set of Apple branded stereo earphones with inline 3-button remote control and microphone.  This included headset can be used to remotely control iPhone 3GS volume level, dialing feature, and iPod App.  Read the rest of this entry »

Hello My Fellow Windows Washing Apple-Seeds,

This post is for those scientifically-minded blind and low vision computerers who prefer a little Windex in their Apple Cider.  (Smile)  That is to say, for those visually impaired JAWS users who wish to run Microsoft Windows as a virtual machine on a Macintosh system.

The following is an overview of the setup I now enjoy:

I HAVE
1.
A MacBook Pro 13-inch running the latest version of the Mac operating system with VoiceOver, Apple’s software screen reading solution for the blind and low vision, enabled.  Read the rest of this entry »

I urge you to attend this seminar either in person or online if for no other reason but that someday you or someone you love may be in need of such technology.

HOW TO FORCE YOUR iPAD TO RESTART

This brief tutorial will explain how to force your iPad to restart if it gets stuck or freezes up.

Just to ease your mind – forcing your iPad to restart will not cause any loss of data – with the possible exception of any work you were doing at the time the iPad and/or App froze, forcing you to reboot it.

It’s actually very easy, once you know how to do it. Click and hold down the Sleep/Wake button (located on the upper-right corner of your iPad). While you’re holding down the Sleep/Wake button, hold down the Home button as well (located on the front of your iPad at the bottom).

Hold down both buttons until your iPad powers off. It will reboot and start again with a small silver Apple image on the screen. It takes about 30 seconds for the iPad to completely startup.

APPLE CONFIRMS IPAD WI-FI PROBLEMS; TRY THESE FIXES

thread entitled “Weak Wifi Pages” already has over 10,000 views – remarkable since it’s only been 48 hours since the official iPad launch. Here are a couple of user statements:

I have also noticed very weak wifi signal in my 16GB iPad. Even when standing in front of the wlan router the signal fluctuates from strong to very weak. The router has very strong signals as every other computer here has full signal strength, even 20-30 meters from the route[r].  Read the rest of this entry »

QUESTION:
Ok, Mark:
Nice going, I think.  Only you very successfully blew me out of the water with this one. (grin)  So, if I understand correctly, you are using your iPhone as a wifi hotspot for your netbook?  I’ve often wondered about the possibility of doing that, though only in a very rudimentary sense.  I’m not understanding the link to Verizon here, though.  Since the networks are different, and your iPhone’s at&t. In any case, nice write-up, and I’m intrigued.  WOW do I have a lot to learn (smile).
