Hello my Bona Fide Barrel of Burgeoning  Bookies,

Convert any MP3 file into a bookmarkable track (audio book) for enjoyment on your iPhone 3GS.

What is a bookmarkable track?

A bookmarkable track is one from which iPhone/iPod can resume playback from the point at which play was either stopped or paused regardless of the number of books that have been played since last it was accessed.

To convert an MP3 file to an audio MP3 book, do the following:

Note 1:
The following instructions are for use with iTunes for Windows 8.2 or later.

NOTE 2:
This document presumes that you have a basic working knowledge of the iTunes/iPhone/iPod file navigation structure.

NOTE 3:
File acquisition instructions are not discussed in this document.

NOTE 4:
File Meta Tagging is not discussed in this document.

NOTE 5:
iPhone/iPod/iTunes synchronization setup is not discussed in this document.

1.
From within iTunes, based on the number of MP3 files you wish to add to your iTunes Library, select either the Add File To Library or the Add Folder To Library item from the File Menu.  A Dialog Box will appear.

2.
Select the file(s) or folder(s) you wish to add and Click  either the “Open” or “OK” button, respectively.  iTunes will ad the data to your Library in the listed as Music.

3.
From within the iTunes Music Library, select the files you just added.

4.
Right-Mouse Click on the selected file(s) and from the resulting Shortcut Menu, select Get Info.  A confirmation Dialog Box may appear asking if you are sure you wish to work with multiple files.  Assuming you wish to proceed, answer “yes”.   A Multi-Tab Dialog Box will appear.

5.
Select the Options Tab.

6.
From the Media Kind List Box, select Audiobook.

7.
Place a Checkmark next to the Remember Position item and select “Yes” from its List Box.

8.
Place a Checkmark next to the Skip When Shuffling item and select “Yes” from its List Box.

9.
Click the “OK” Button.  The files, which you have just assigned to the Media Type of Audiobook, will be automatically moved from the Music section to the Audiobook section of the iTunes Library.

NOTE 6:
It may be necessary to close and restart iTunes in order to see the newly assigned audiobooks in the Audiobook section of the iTunes Library.

10.
You may now sync your iPhone/iPod with iTunes in order to begin enjoying your audiobooks.

NOTE 7:
iPHone 3GS version 3.0 allows both 1/2x speed and 2x speed audiobook playback.

Enjoy,

Mark
