QUESTION:
During my latest recording of a Mobile Geo podcast, I was forced to restart the phone while Geo was speaking. In effect, the system was frozen.Â
Upon restarting the phone, to my dismay, I discovered that the Start Menu shortcut keys had been disabled. That is, before the Geo lock-up, from the Start Menu, I could simply tap the letter M for Mobile Geo or O for Mobile Speak or F for File Explorer or W for Windows Media player. In fact, upon pressing the Start Menu, Mobile Speak would read the Hotkey available. For example, it would say, “Mobile Geo, M”.Â
After the Geo Lock-up, none of the shortcuts are available. When I attempt to tap a letter, I get a beep. Also, Mobile Speak no longer reads the shortcut keys. Now it just says, as I scroll down the Start Menu, “Mobile Geo.”Â
Has anyone else experienced this issue? This problem occurred once before, in the previous version of Geo but, upon a hard reset, the shortcut keys were restored.Â
Last time, I uninstalled Geo and I think I uninstalled MSP but the only thing that solved the problem was a hard reset. I have already attempted to use the restore default feature in MSP, this time.
Other than hard-resetting my device, how can I restore this functionality?Â
Thank you.
ANSWER:
It’s a very strange situation. But under some very specific conditions a system lockup could affect to what you’re referring.
Do the following:Â
1.
With your preferred Windows Mobile Registry Editor, browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell.
2.
Locate the Key labeled “HasKeyboard”.
3.
Change its value from 0 to 1.
4.
Be sure to save the changes and restart the device.
